SAINTS VALIANT TO THE END

David Graham

In a difficult afternoon for the MacKillop Saints family, both our Girls & Boys teams went down to persistent and hard hitting Casuarina sides. Our ladies team, much younger than their opposition put up a stern effort however were denied much of the football throughout the match. Although plagued by early injuries, our ladies put up a good fight and displayed some real progress in their knowledge and understanding of the game. In the Boys match up, a stop-start game proved frustrating for the Saints who failed to find rhythm and consistency throughout the match. The slow game perfectly suited the undermanned but physically larger Colts outfit with much of the first half consumed by injury time. At 4 - 4 at the break, the Saints found themselves battered in defense and without the ball for large stints during the match. Ball handling errors at crucial junctures proved the difference as the Colts pulled away in the dying minutes. Results aside there was much to be proud of. 2018 was the first time any MacKillop teams had reached the Grandfinal of the Eels cup and we have proven ourselves on the main stage. Both Coaches expressed praise for their players and a keenness and hunger to go one better next year! Congratulations!
