Rugby League Season 2022 Wraps Up with Final Game at MacKillop Field

Updated: Nov 7, 2022

The MacKillop Saints u16s Boys will wrap up season 2022 in a derby match against fierce rivals, Taminmin College, at MacKillop Field tomorrow afternoon. Recent games between the two schools in this division have gone both ways, with the last encounter seeing Taminmin come out victorious to claim the Eels Cup in a game played before a large crowd at TIO Stadium. Although there is no silverware on the line this time around, our Saints will be looking level the ledger with a win in front of their home crowd. Head Coach, Mr Matthew Sharp, delivered his exclusive team announcement to us via Zoom this afternoon –

Coach Sharp indicated that this game will see a number of regular faces kit up for the Saints for the final time with names that include Jayden Mick, Trent Harvey and Alfred Walker ending their careers with the team at the conclusion of this match. ‘It will be sad, but also a time for celebration’, Sharp said, when speaking about the exiting players. ’Jayden, Trent and Alfie have all been core parts of our team over the years and their presence will be missed. All I can really say is that I hope they enjoyed their time in the team, thank them for their efforts and wish them good luck with their future endeavours’. While we say goodbye to some, we say hello to others with twins, Manu and Marley Carter set to make their debuts in the Rugby League team tomorrow. Both have been in excellent form in Rugby Union and are keen to show what they’ve got to their new school crowd. The game will kick off at 1pm with a Girls match set to take place beforehand if terms of play can be agreed upon between the two schools. April O’Neil – Reporting Correspondent
